Dragonkind game guide: the essentials

New to Dragonkind? Start with the beginner walkthrough, then use the color and tail guide to read your result card.

Official game details and player observations

What is the Dragonkind game?

Dragonkind is Rebecca Yarros’s free, browser-based interactive Threshing adventure in the world of Fourth Wing. You enter the Valley as a rider and make choices that shape your encounters.

How do I play Dragonkind?

Sign in with your email, enter the one-time code, receive your Wing, Section, and Squad assignment, then step into the Threshing Valley and make choices scene by scene.

Is Dragonkind free to play?

Yes. The browser game uses email sign-in; the official entry flow does not ask for payment.

Why didn’t my Dragonkind login code arrive?

The official FAQ says codes are sent in batches. Check spam, wait a little, then request another code. A regular inbox may work better than a disposable address.

Can I try again after dying in Threshing?

Yes. The official FAQ says you can try again after a few hours and keep trying until you bond with a dragon; it does not set an attempt limit.

How long is the Dragonkind retry wait?

Rebecca Yarros has described a four-hour retry timer, while her FAQ says you can return after a few hours. Follow the countdown shown in your Rotunda for the current run.

Can I choose which dragon bonds with me?

Your choices shape which scenes you reach, but there is no published answer key that guarantees a color. Player reports also include chance-based branches and conflicting outcomes.

Is there a correct route or a shouting trick?

No official choice map guarantees a bond. Players have reported both bonding and being burned after bold replies, so treat shouting tips as unverified observations.

How do I get a Black dragon in Dragonkind?

The community map links a possible Black branch to the luck-based shadow option after climbing the tallest tree. It is a reported route, not a guaranteed method or published drop rate.

How should I approach each dragon color?

Community notes suggest lowering your eyes for Green, avoiding a Red’s gaze, withdrawing from Blue, and not showing fear to Brown. Orange reports vary, and Black dragons choose for themselves. None of these notes is a confirmed scoring rule.

Are dragon tails locked to one color?

No. Rebecca Yarros says all dragon colors and tail types are possible. The game has six colors and 30 color-and-tail combinations.

What appears on a Dragonkind result card?

Player-shared cards show details such as the dragon’s name, color, tail type, age, sex, and lineage. Use your own card as the source when recording a result.

What is the Rotunda button for?

It is an in-game control shown after your assignment. This guide does not map every Rotunda screen; use the countdown displayed there when you are waiting to retry.

Are Gold, Irid, or Feathertail standard dragon results?

Do not assume Gold or Irid unless your own result card shows it. Feathertail is associated with a juvenile stage, not a seventh dragon color.

Does bonding give me a relic or a signet?

The result documented here is a digital dragon card. Signets have been announced as a planned Dragonkind feature, but their assignment mechanics are not established in the materials we have.
